When Jesus says, “I am the door” he’s offering people an invitation to enter the fold of God and enjoy the peace and joy of salvation. But at the same time he’s offering the promise of divine security. After the sheep had entered the fold for the night, the shepherd would rest in the doorway of the sheepfold acting as the gate – putting his body between the sheep and the wolves. This is a comforting idea to think about in our day and age – nothing can touch our lives without first touching His.
