The Bible says I am saved by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8). But the Bible teaches that my reward in heaven is based on works (Revelation 22:12). As we anticipate our Lord’s 2nd coming we must also anticipate a time of reward. Some think this is superficial or unspiritual. But please remember that Jesus didn’t rebuke the disciples when they said, “we have left everything and followed you, what then will we have?” No, instead he promised them reward (Matthew 19:27-30). Is it wrong to want what God has promised?
The Bible teaches there are four criterion for receiving eternal rewards at the Christian’s judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10).
1) How well has your life and ministry lined up with the Word of God? (2 Timothy 2:5)
2) How faithful have you been as stewards of all that God has entrusted to you? (2 Corinthians 4:2)
3) What means did you use to accomplish his work? (John 15:5)
4) What was your motivation? (1 Corinthians 4:5)
