What is the purpose of life?

[column width=”1/1″ last=”true” title=”What is the Purpose of Life?” title_type=”single” animation=”none” implicit=”true”]

This is the question that most people ask and continue to ask from the “womb to the tomb.” Sadly, for many people, the question never gets answered!

Many people are spending their ONE LIFE in loneliness, emptiness, depression, and many are destroying their lives each day with alcohol, drugs, immortality, violence, and even suicide BECAUSE they don’t know why they are here and what their purpose is in life.

Most people attempt to find their purpose in their career path, relationships, pedigree, dreams etc.

You say things like… “I’m a doctor; I am a basketball player; I am a student; I am a mother; I am a business owner; I am an author; I am a scientist; I am a rock star” etc. There is nothing wrong with these things, but the truth is you are so much more!

The Bible Says

You are the IMAGE OF GOD (Gen. 1:26-28).

This simply means that GOD created YOU to represent HIM on earth! This is the purpose of your life!

God made you in His image in order to represent Him to the world. In a way, you’re an ambassador for God (one who acts and speaks on His behalf).

Now here’s your problem…

You’ve spent most of your life misrepresenting God – thinking, doing and saying things that do not accurately represent his nature.

The ugly reality is – we have all deliberately, by our own free will misrepresented God – we have all thought, said, and done things that obviously don’t represent what we believe about God, such as: lying, cheating, stealing, lusting, cursing, coveting, hating, gossiping etc.

The Bible calls misrepresentation – SIN

Now imagine if you’re an ambassador for your country and you went to the U.N. and totally misrepresented your leader – what do you thing would happen? You most likely would be fired! The same is true with God. However, the Bible says, those who misrepresent God will not fired, but instead they will be put to death.

The Bible says, the wages of misrepresenting God is death (Rom. 6:23)!

The frightening reality is – we have all misrepresented God, and honestly if you think about it have not earned the place of honor and blessing from God, but rather punishment for our deliberate misrepresentation.

Ok, so that’s the bad news.

Here’s the Good News…

The Bible says, Jesus perfectly represented God and therefore did not deserve to die, but in fact died on the cross to take the punishment for all your misrepresentation of God. And because of His sacrifice, He is able to graciously give you a second chance to truly represent God to the world with the rest of your life.

Do you want this second chance? Today God is offering you a second chance to fulfill the purpose of your life!!

If you desire from this point on to represent God with your life, then you must first ask Him for the opportunity, and you must do two things:

  1. Repent – Turn away from that which doesn’t represent God!
  2. Be Baptized – Identify yourself with Christ publically, acknowledging that when Christ died, he was dying for your sin. And when Christ was raised from the dead he was providing you and opportunity to walk with Him in a new way, with a new purpose in life – to represent God!

“He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for him who for their sake died and was raised again” (2 Corinthians 5:15).
